    Description

FIREFLY V3HB is an upgrade of the DAISY V2AC LEMS that has been supplied to many very happy customers in six states of Australia. It is the first iteration (upgrade) of 2024. It is the most advanced, mobility user friendly, and OT (Occupational Therapist) pleasing LEMS available to date, and it is super safe and comfortable. A luxury enclosed mobility scooter, LEMS, fit for a royal.

FIREFLY V3HB being only a few hands longer and wider than some other makes of cabin mobility scooters, and now with regenerative braking, an electric brake on full stop, and a foot brake, as well as the original hand operated brake, making this luxury enclosed mobility scooter one the most easily driven, comfortable and safest mobility scooters available.

Firefly V3HB is eminently usable and very comfortable for even the largest person, and it is crammed full of refinement, a luxury enclosed cabin mobility scooter at an affordable price.

FIREFLY V3HB has enough power and torque thanks to its’ two-speed differential, to smoothly drive anywhere you want to go, from a crawl on a pedestrian congested footpath, to a comfortable speed in the open.

FIREFLY V3HB has two speeds in the differential, and in low gear the max speed can be set to 3.5 / 7 / 10 km/hr.
In high gear, the max speeds can be set at 10 / 20 / 30 km/hr.
With the differential gear in low speed, there is ample torque to climb the steepest driveway, or other low speed high torque required conditions.
This also allows you to have excellent speed control, when in crowded pedestrian footpath situations.

FIREFLY V3HB originally came with a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery, but all future FIREFLY V3HB come with a Lithium Ternary (LiCoNiMnO) battery.

FIREFLY V3HB has many other superb features, check them out in the “Features” Section.

FIREFLY V3HB is an all-weather (from freezing cold to boiling hot) LEMS, luxury Enclosed Mobility Scooter, fit for a royal.

FIREFLY V3HB Motor & Battery Combination

FIREFLY V3HB has been upgraded from the original Lead Acid battery to have a Lithium Ternary battery. There were four units of the V3Hb sold with a Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery.
NOTE; The range is reduced with the regenerative braking motor and the LiFePO4 battery.
    To summarise, distances obtained are, V2AC 60-70km, V3HB PO4 20-30 km, V3HB and V4LHB Ternary 30-40km.

FIREFLY V3HB has a 60V AC 1.5 kW Brushless Motor, powerful and efficient.

FIREFLY V3HB has an upgraded 64V 80Ah Lithium Ternary battery that should be charged after 30-40 km use.
(The 4 units with the LiFePO4 battery should be charged after every use and do not exceed 20km since last charge)

These batteries can also withstand extremes in temperature without damage.

ALWAYS FULLY CHARGE YOUR FIREFLY BATTERY BEFORE USING FROM NEW.

In practice depending on driving style, terrain, load, speed etc, you will get distances as stated above. With the heater or air conditioner going, you will get less distance. Also, remember Lithium batteries have a VERY short end phase in their power supply, so run out very quickly. See the graphs in the “More Information” section. It is best to recharge the Firefly HB earlier rather than too late !

DO NOT RELY ON THE BATTERY GUAGE, two bars gone, CHARGE IMMEDIATELY.

When in storage, the Lithium FePO4 battery should be charged to full, for the Ternary battery about half full, and make sure the Daisy’s Power / Overload switch is OFF, so there is no chance of accidentally drawing current from the stored battery.
Charge the battery fully every month to make sure it remains at the right state of charge.

If you accidentally discharge the battery to zero charge, contact the office for advice.

This is the LiFePO4 batteries performance vs distance travelled table, as calculated ….
Daisy Firefly HB LiFePO4 lifetime performance

    Km Recharges Total distance
    5      3000          15,000
    10    1500          15,000
    15    1000          15,000
    20      600          12,000
    25      200            5,000 (est)

The above data was calculated using a Victron Shunt Energy Analyzer.

Please note, this information is as per this particular type of Lithium battery and is not what you may know or be told about other types of Lithium batteries.

I need to move my FIREFLY V3HB Mobility Scooter by pushing it?
Your FIREFLY V3HB Mobility Scooter has an Electric Brake, which engages when it comes to a full stop.
This brake can be disengaged by lifting the lever on the RHS of the motor under the rear.
Remember to engage the electric brake before using by moving the lever downward.

What materials is the FIREFLY V3HB Mobility Scooter made from?
The FIREFLY V3HB Mobility Scooter panels are made from ABS, an impact-resistance engineering thermoplastic. The windscreen and windows are made from Tempered Safety Glass, so they will not shatter into shards that cut you if broken. The frame construction is unitary, very strong one-piece steel. All to vehicle industry standards.

How often should I charge my FIREFLY V3HB Mobility Scooter?
It is best to charge the battery as mentioned in the battery section.

When in storage, or not intending to use for more than a week, switch off the Circuit Breaker (Kill Switch / Overload Switch) and charge the battery as mentioned in the battery section.

What is the average life of a FIREFLY V3HB Mobility Scooter battery?
The FIREFLY V3HB Lithium batteries generally are able to be charged many small discharges and fewer deep discharges. See more in Motor and Battery combination.

Why is a Lithium battery so much better than a Lead-Acid battery?
Firstly, the voltage platform is higher for a Lithium battery, and thus there is more power produced by the motor, and more consistently.
Secondly, the power available (power density) is much greater, making the battery much lighter, and thirdly the power is able to be delivered much faster.
Lastly, the ideal temperature for all batteries is 25 C. Temperature limits are, for Lead Acid 0-+35 C, for the FIREFLY V3HB Lithium battery it is -20-+45-50 C. Temperatures over 35 C damage lead acid batteries.

Is the FIREFLY V3HB Mobility Scooter battery safe ?
Everyone by now has heard of Lithium battery fires occurring. All of the fires can be accounted for due to many individual factors that are not the norm in the use of any original lithium battery with the correct charger.
Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries are the safest Lithium Battery.
Lithium Ternary Batteries are the most powerful and economical to run.

What is the running cost of a FIREFLY V3HB Mobility Scooter?
The electric power cost for the FIREFLY V3HB is approximately 3-5 cents/km.
As in all electric mobility devices, it is the cost of the battery that is the expensive part.
The total running cost of a FIREFLY V3HB is about 18-23 cent/km plus any servicing.

Can I use other batteries in my FIREFLY V3HB?
You could use another type of battery in your FIREFLY V3HB, but the Lithium Iron Phosphate or Lithium Ternary battery supplied are the best for the job, as explained in the answers above.
We recommend to only install the correct battery available from your dealer or directly from Mobility Scooters for Hire Sale Service.

I need to drive more than 20km on occasions, but like my Firefly V3HB. What can I do?
You may change your LiFePO4 battery for a LiMnNiCo (Ternary) battery and your distance travelled will increase to 30-40km usable.

What is the service schedule for FIREFLY V3HB?
Your FIREFLY V3HB requires a service every year or 1000km.
Change the differential oil with SAE 80W-90 gear oil.
Use 3in1 oil on all joints and moving parts.
Wash with running water and a very soft cloth or brush, and wipe as required with a damp soft cloth. Do not use detergents or other cleaners, they are not required. Never wipe in a dry condition, as the dust and sand will scratch surfaces. A UV Protectorant polish is highly recommended to use on a monthly basis after washing as it will help protect the paint covering from Australia’s harsh sun’s UV damage.

What is the correct way to connect the power to the charger to charge you LEMS?
    Operation Instructions :
Connect outlet plug of the charger to your FIREFLY V3HB.
Connect the inlet plug of the charger to AC power socket, and when or if connected, turn the power switch on.
When the indicator light is RED it is charging (sometimes this maybe flashing at around one second intervals). When GREEN it is fully charged.
Charging time is proportional to the power required to fully charge the battery, and that is what was used since the last charging.
To disconnect the charger, firstly turn off or remove the charger input plug from the AC power supply.
Remove the charger outlet plug from the FIREFLY V3HB.

    Notes :
Do not use outside in the sun, rain or damp
Do not use in dusty conditions
Do not use inside your FIREFLY V3HB
Do not place on or near inflammable materials
    Do not drop
Ensure the correct charger is used for correct battery type and capacity.
Some chargers have different colour light sequences, please check and note when first using.
