Mobility Scooter Batteries, GEL, AGM, Lithium Ion, Deep Cycle Batteries
Mobility Scooters for Hire, Sale, Service, supplies and installs Batteries for use in mobility scooters, electric wheelchairs, scooters, golf carts, gophers, and other electric mobility devices, as well as camping, marine, leisure, etc. Freight by express courier delivered to your door. Please make contact for freight cost if required. For installation, please make contact. Conditions are as follows. Delivery, 25.00 + 2.50/km plus GST one way from base in Thomastown for first 50 km then 1.25/km plus call out 25.00, plus installation 25.00 / battery. A free inspection and simple maintenance of your scooter / electrical system is carried out at the same time. For portable equipment, where batteries are encased, installation is 35.00.
GEL Batteries
PROs – tolerate deep cycle discharge, better able to withstand extended deep discharge conditions. Also ideal for RV /
Recreational use where discharge often more than 50%.
CONs – lower continuous high current withdraw, shorter high temperature life (over 35C).
If you drive long distances get a suitable machine, and with GEL or better still, Lithium batteries.
Best to keep battery fully charged by charging after each use or at least weekly and cycling ever three months if not used.

AGM Batteries
PROs – great for standby / UPS / recreational use, where discharge is usually less than 50%, or seldom
discharged below 50%. Full discharges destroy life expectancy.
NOTE – AGM batteries sold here are specifically designed for mobility devices use.
Best for mobility scooters / scooters, etc. only if you believe discharge will usually be less than about 50%.
Tolerate higher temperatures 0-<40C, and have better and higher discharge rates than a GEL battery.
CONs – do not tolerate deep discharge conditions. There is no warrantee if the battery fails within 12 months due to continuous discharges over 50% ie. over-discharge. Must not be left in a partial discharged state after use.
If you drive long distances get a suitable machine, and with GEL or better still, Lithium batteries.
Requires specific charger. Charge after each use, and weekly if not using. Discharge to 50% and recharge every three months if not using.
Temperature range approx 0 – <40 C.

Lithium Batteries
NOTE – Drypower Lithium batteries used as replacement for the lead acid GEL and AGM standard battery in mobility devices are Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries.
Each type of Lithium battery has its own specific type of charger. This is important – use only the correct charger.
If replacing the mobility device’s lead acid battery with a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, a new charger will also be required.
PROs – 2x usable power, up to 4x life, 1/3 weight, low self discharge, wider temperature range -20 – 50 C, longer design and service life.
Best value for money of all battery types.
CONs – Approx 2x price, charger must not be left connected for long periods once the battery is fully charged. Overnight charging is permissible.
For LiFePO4 batteries, it is best to keep them fully charged, so charge after each use, and store fully charged. Check each month.
For Ternary batteries it is best to cycle battery capacity between 100-20% SOC ie. fewer deeper discharges better than many shallow discharges.
Also, store at half charge and check each month.
